Why No One Cares About Your Product (Yet)—And How to Fix It

THE LEAN LESSON

Most founders believe that once they build their product, customers will magically appear.

Reality check: No one is waiting for your product.

If you don’t build an audience before launching, you’ll be launching to crickets.

A client of mine was about to make this mistake.

She had no audience, no social proof, no buzz—but was about to drop serious money on an app.

Instead, I showed her how to build an engaged audience first, so that when she launched, she had people lining up to buy.

Step 1: Become Valuable Before You Sell Anything

Before people trust your product, they need to trust you.

How? By consistently providing value before you ask for anything in return.

Here’s what my client did:

✅ She started sharing insights on social media

  • Instead of just talking about her product, she talked about the problem it solves.

  • She posted things like: "3 common mistakes people make when [dealing with this problem]."

✅ She engaged with people in startup communities

  • She joined Facebook groups, Reddit threads, and Twitter conversations.

  • Instead of pitching, she gave valuable insights.

✅ She used storytelling to connect with her audience

  • She shared her personal journey—why she built this startup.

  • She posted case studies of people struggling with the same issue.

Within three months, she built an engaged community on Instagram and LinkedIn.

Step 2: Create a Direct Channel to Your Audience

Likes and comments are great—but an email list is better.

We set up a simple lead magnet:

  • A free guide: "The Ultimate Playbook to Solving [X Problem]"

  • In exchange, people entered their email addresses.

Now, instead of hoping social media algorithms worked in her favor, she had a direct line to her audience.

Step 3: Sell to an Audience That’s Ready to Buy

By the time she launched her product, her audience already trusted her.

The result? She made her first sales instantly—without spending a dime on ads.

mers waiting for your product instead of struggling to find them.
