The 3C Rule: Competence, Character, and Chemistry

Hey Readers

Good Morning!

Hope you must have celebrated The Republic Day yesterday.

Like I mentioned in yesterday letter, I didn’t celebrate that much. Inspite I worked on my pending projects and upcoming projects.

So here’s an update.

We have officially wrapped up our season 2 of sign up startup podcast.

There’s a bonus episode for all of you which will be released this Sunday.

But what’s next then?

Stay tuned, as I will reveal this in my newsletter only.

Now, let’s start Monday with a warm sip of coffee. ☕

1% BETTER MORNING

The 3C Rule: Competence, Character, and Chemistry

Hiring is like a three-legged stool: if one leg is weak, the whole thing collapses.

The 3C rule ensures you’re building a balanced team:

  1. Competence: Can they do the job?

  2. Character: Do they have the right values?

  3. Chemistry: Can they work well with the team?

For instance, a competent but arrogant hire might complete tasks but alienate teammates.

Similarly, someone with great character but no skills will struggle to contribute effectively.

Action Points:

  1. Use structured interviews to assess competence, character, and chemistry.

  2. Include team members in the hiring process to test for fit.

  3. Don’t compromise on any of the three C’s — they’re equally vital.

WHAT I AM READING THIS WEEK

How to Finish Everything You Start by Jan Yager

Well, by this weekend I will finish the book. One of the key learning from last week is F-I-N-I-S-H Technique.

The FINISH Technique is a structured approach designed to help individuals overcome procrastination and develop habits that lead to completing tasks and projects. Each letter in the acronym represents a key principle:

F - Focus on the Outcome

Begin with clarity about the end goal. Visualizing the finished task helps you stay motivated and on track. Knowing why you're doing something and the benefits of completing it can propel you forward, even during challenging moments.

I - Identify Your Priorities

Not everything on your plate deserves equal attention. Prioritize tasks based on their importance and urgency. Break larger projects into smaller, manageable steps to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

N - Narrow Your Efforts

Avoid multitasking, as it dilutes your focus and efficiency. Commit to one task at a time and immerse yourself fully in it until it’s done. Eliminate distractions by creating an environment conducive to productivity.

I - Implement Deadlines

Deadlines create a sense of urgency and provide structure to your workflow. Set realistic timelines for each step of your project and stick to them. Even self-imposed deadlines can significantly boost accountability and momentum.

S - Seek Support

Leverage the power of accountability. Share your goals with friends, mentors, or accountability partners who can keep you on track and provide encouragement. It’s also helpful to seek advice or collaboration when needed.

H - Honor Your Success

Celebrate milestones and completed tasks, no matter how small. Acknowledging your progress reinforces the habit of finishing what you start and builds confidence for future endeavors.

This week, I’m committing to implementing the FINISH Technique as I complete reading "How to Finish Everything You Start." By the end of this week, not only will I finish this book, but it will also mark my first completed book of 2025—a step toward building consistency and focus for the year ahead!
